FAQ

Q. How do I book an appointment?

A. Send me an email or give me a call! I will check my availability against yours and we will come up with a day and time that works best for everyone. A $100 deposit is needed to secure your session appointment and can be made by check (through snail mail) or credit card (via PayPal).

Q. What time is best to schedule a session?

A. Because I work with available natural light, the time of our session is an important factor to consider when scheduling. For indoor sessions midday is best when the sun has the best chance of shining bright. Somewhere in the 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM range works great when no direct light is shining in through your windows but it’s still nice and bright inside. For outdoor sessions about 2 hours before sunset is great. Natural light is readily available then, but not direct and harsh–less shadows and squinting to work around.

Q. What can I expect during a session?

A. I like to take a few minutes to first talk about what you want from the session while I set up. If we are indoors at your home I like to photograph where there is the most available natural light. For newborns and non-mobile babies I can set up my backgrounds (black, cream, grassy green, or light brown). For older babies, children, and families we will work around your home outside. If we are outdoors we will scope out the area for the most favorable location as well. I prefer minimal posing for a more natural feel and will happily chase kids around as they explore, though it is nice to aim for a few smiling-at-the-camera shots too. Final payment is due at this time by either cash or check. If you wish to pay entirely by credit card you can do so in advance through PayPal.

Q. What can I expect after a session?

A. I will edit and process your photographs within one week of our time together. I will then upload them for viewing, downloading, and ordering in an online gallery and email you the link with password. You will be able to download your digital copies through this gallery or order prints that will be mailed to your directly. You are welcome to share this online gallery with any family or friends if you choose. Photo prints ordered through the gallery are printed with archival quality ink and paper and are guaranteed for 100 year with in-home display or 200 years in storage.

Q. If I don’t want to order from your professional printing lab, where should I have my photos printed?

A. For anything you plan on displaying for years to come I highly recommend my professional printing lab. For other photo uses I’ve written a blog post further outlining my thoughts on this subject here with various local and online photo lab reviews.

Q. Do you photograph events? Weddings? My kid’s birthday party?

A. I would be happy to try and help you based on my availability! Please visit my Pricing page or contact me for details.

Q. What is a mini-session and how do I get one?

A. I book mini-sessions throughout the year, generally around holidays or season changes. I choose the day and time range and you can pick a 30 minute session from what is available. These abbreviated sessions will typically include a print or digital package and an online gallery. Keep an eye on my blog or Facebook page to see what’s going on!
